Bed Bug

Posted October 2, 2009

Bed bugs are small bloodsucking insects that feed on humans and other warm-blood animals.
Bed bugs are less than 1/4 " in length, flat, and oval- shaped like, a bit like a sunflower seed. And can go up to a year without a blood meal.

Bed bugs often hide in mattresses , furniture, behind wall coverings and pictures/ paintings. They will crawl and nest inside tiny crevices anywhere indoors.

Bed bugs are typically insects (they creep about at nighttime), Bed bugs are not necessarily a sign of unkempt/dirty homes, and female bed bugs can lay as many as 500 eggs during her lifetime.

A bed bug's saliva features an anesthetic to numb the pain as it's biting. It also contains anti-coagula it's meal host flowing, Bed bugs do not transmit any pathogens or diseases.
 Bed bugs dangers :

When a bed bug bites it injects an anti- blood clotting chemical into the skin. Some people may actually be allergic to bed bugs and the degree of itching is determined by how allergic a person is.

If you notice any signs of infection, Call your physician immediately.
Scratching the bites can also result in an infection, If you do not get an simply an irritating nuisance.

It may take a few weeks for the itching to subside and for the welts to disappear.

Bed bugs Life Cycle :

Insecticides, You must first locate where the bed bugs live.

Remember, Just because they are called bed bugs, doesn't mean they can't live  in other areas of the home.

There are many insecticides that are available in both dust and spray applications.

Some of the primary ingredients to look for when choosing something proven to combat bed bugs include permethrin, propoxur, chlorpyrifos,  and resmethrin.

Bed Bug

Elimination, Description of Common Bed Bugs

Bed bug elimination is best accomplished by first understanding the pest that has invaded your home - especially where bedbugs hide.  Knowing bed bug habits and description of bedbugs will give you knowledge needed when choosing and applying the best control products.

The most common mistake made when controlling bed bugs: not knowing which type of insecticide to use in the correct areas.  Most of the people who read this article will skip the most important step: dusting cracks and crevices with Drione Dust.  Just as in controlling ticks, you must apply a professional insecticide dust into tiny cracks and crevices where the targeted pest hides.  Many household pests can be controlled or prevented by a simple insecticide bug spray on baseboards and exterior surfaces of the home.  This is not the case when dealing with an infestation of bed bugs.

Once bed bugs have invaded your home, they can be a little tough to eliminate.  Their habits, size and their hardy nature help contribute to their persistence in homes that they have invaded.

An adult bed bug is not very large; it is usually about 1/4 an inch long.  The smallBed Bugbody size helps this pest to hide in areas that make their elimination difficult.  The bed bug nymph succumbs to pest control products easier than their adult counterparts but (just like adults) can go for long periods without food.  Blood taken from humans is the preferred food of young and adult common bed bugs.

There are other species of bed bugs (besides the common bed bug) that prefer other hosts (bats, swallows, pigeons, starlings, etc.) but these blood feeding pests will also feed on humans if given the opportunity.Picture of Bedbugs

A bed bug's secretive nature makes it a difficult pest to identify and eliminate.  These insects are not seen crawling around in the daylight hours where they would be easily identified.  They hide in various areas during the day and come out at quiet times of the night to feed on human blood.  Since they usually wait for their host to go to sleep, the host does not see or feel their presence.  The obvious sign that a bed bug infestation is in a room is the presence of small drops of blood on sheets and pillows or pillow cases.

Bed Bug Elimination    Bed Bug Pest Control Products

Bed bug elimination procedures, methods and products closely resemble those used for indoor tick elimination, due to their size, harborage areas and habits.  Thorough inspection of the premises will save you time and money.  These tiny bugs can be found in any small crack in proximity to where humans rest or sleep.  These cracks and crevices are generally behind and beneath baseboards, beneath area rugs, between carpeting and walls, in power areas of appliances or even in the folds of curtains and drapes in the infested room.  A thorough vacuuming of cracks, crevices and other areas where bed bugs hide is an essential part of an integrated pest management program targeting this particular pest.
A combination of odorless insecticide spray and insecticide dust is needed to eliminate bed bug populations with special attention given to dusting all bug hiding places.  Once mattresses and box spring setups have been thoroughly cleaned and (if necessary) treated with an odorless dust, plastic covers on the mattresses will help keep bugs in as well as keep others out.

A general purpose spray can be used on carpets, furniture and baseboards to help cut back on some of the population but the most important pest control tool you can use is an insecticide dust.  Many pest control service technicians are now using premium fogging solutions in addition to other suggested pest management procedures for bed bug control.  When fogging with a cold fogger is required for stubborn or re-occurring bed bug infestations, BP100-Plus is giving best fog results.  BP100-Plus contains a high amount of natural pyrethrins (1.00%) and also contains an IGR called Hydroprene.  Fogging is rarely considered to be great controller of pests when used alone.  Only use a fog when a very fast kill of existing bugs is needed.  Fogging mainly kills exposed bugs that are not hiding in cracks or crevices.  With the addition of Hydroprene, BP100-Plus does give an extra residual effect.
Elimination of a bed bug infestation takes some patience.  These pests live in tiny cracks that are sometimes difficult to reach with pest control products and they can live a longer time without food than can other blood feeding bugs such as fleas.  Apply your spray to baseboards, carpets, flooring, throw rugs, area rugs or other areas where bed bugs might crawl at night.  This insecticide will also kill spiders, fleas, ticks, ants and other household pests.
After allowing your pesticide spray solution to thoroughly dry, you may now begin the important application of dust.  Any area of possible bed bug harborage (especially those areas where your spray cannot reach) should be treated with Drione Dust.

Bed Bug Sprays

General purpose sprays such as Suspend SC that are water safe for fabrics are preferred for elimination of bed bug populations.  Suspend SC is odorless and (when used as directed) is safe to use in homes where children and pets live.  (The active ingredient in Suspend is Deltamethrin, the same material found in Delta Dust.)  Use this insecticide to spray carpets, flooring, rugs and baseboards.  Do not spray bedding, mattresses or pillows with this product.  If you want to spray these objects, use a spray that is labeled for such use.  Claire Lice Killer can be sprayed on inanimate objects such as bedding, stuffed animal toys, etc. in homes.
Other professional concentrates that work when spraying for bed bugs: Tempo SC and Demand CS.  Both of these products will give a good residual and (like Suspend SC) have little to no odor.  The main advantage of Suspend SC is its broadcast label, allowing more liberal application than most professional insecticides.
Sprays used for killing bed bugs are listed on Bed Bug Control Products page.

Bed Bug Dust

Once your insecticide spray has been allowed to dry, it is time to apply your insecticide dust. Drione Dust is the very best product for killing bed bugs where they hide, in cracks and crevices.  Use a Crusader Duster for applying this product.  Bed bugs can hide in many places where your dust must be applied properly or you will have a failure in your effort to control the bugs.

Dusts used in bed bug elimination are listed on Bed Bug Control products page.

Areas to dust include seams or joints in the construction of bed frames, inside boxed springs, flooring beneath beds, behind and beneath baseboards and baseboard moldings - any area small enough for bed bugs to enter and hide.  Once

Rodents Control

Posted October 2, 2009

Rodent is an order mammals also known as rodents, characterized by two continuously growing incisors in the upper and lower jaws which must be kept short by gnawing.
Common mammal species are rodents (include mice, rats, squirrels, Chipmunks, gophers, hamsters, gerbils and chinchillas…..act.)

  • There are more than million cases of bites in the home.
  • There are more than 20% of human food is destroyed or contaminated, per year, worldwide by rats.
  • Rodents spreading dangers disease such as

Rodents habitats :
Hollowing – scramble – gnawing – jumping – swimming.
Rodent availability indicia :
Direct indicia  : That’s main sight rats itself( its difficult).
Indirect indicia : That’s main the indications which leaves back rodents such as ( feces, tunnels, hollowed).

Rodent control :
Biological methods to control rodents have been tried, without a great deal  of success.
The most effective method of rodent control found so far is  the use of rodenticides.

There are two main kinds of poisons :
The single dose ( acute poisons) such as Zink phosphate kill rodents rapidly after one intake.
This method does however not give a high percentage kill, because rodents feed slowly on a poisoned bait.

When they experience uncomfortable symptoms they cease feeding often, before having taken a lethal dose, Their reaction and the reaction of those animals having taken a lethal dose and which have painful symptoms will warm the colony who may not touch the toxicant for as much as six months or more, This acute poisons present a hazard to men and domestic animals.

Multiple dose poisons This kinds method very effectiveness and safety.
This success depends on the fact that symptoms of poisoning appear very slowly and rodents do not associate them with their food.

Ants Control

Posted October 2, 2009

Ants are social insects of the famicidae, and along with the related wasps and bees, they belong to the order Hymenoptera.

Today, more than 12,000 species are classified with up estimates of about 14,000 species. Ants from colonies that range in size from a few dozen predatory individuals living in small natural cavities to highly organized colonies which may occupy large territories and consist of million of individuals.

These larger colonies consist mostly of sterile wingless females forming castes of (workers, soldiers ), or other specialized groups.

Ants can be a major problem for your home or business. If you are not treating the outside of you home for pests on a regular basis, ants will establish scent trails which will lead into your house. Once these trails are in place, you must use more than just spray (insecticides, pesticides) to stop them from entering. We recommend a three pronged approach:ant baits inside home, yard treatment with either ant baits or insecticides, foundation spray treatment around home.
If you follow these directions, all ant colonies in and around your home will be eliminated.  Dual Choice, Gourmet, Maxforce, Niban and Fluorguard ant baits, Talstar, Demon and Cynoff insecticides are different pest control products mentioned in this article that help with different ant control jobs.

This article deals with household ant pests.  If you have carpenter ants or wish to prevent carpenter ant infestations, go to our Carpenter Antarticle.   Pharaoh ants also demand special attention.  Go to our Pharaoh Ant article for more information.   For other ants, their biology, habits and elimination methods

Ant colonies also have some fertile males called (drones ) and one or more fertile females called (queen) The colonies are sometimes described as super organisms because ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the Some ant species are considered pests. Pest management is therefore a matter of controlling local populations.

Control method of Ants :
Populations are controlled using insecticide baits, either in granule or liquid formulations. Bait is gathered by the ants as food and brought back to the nest where the poison is inadvertently spread to other colony .

Boric acid and borax :
are often used as insecticides that are relatively safe for humans.
Controlling depending on survey , discovery the nests, subway, tunnels and gathered sand and locked by hardily material and destroyed all the nests and subway and tunnels.

Cockroaches Control

Cockroaches, hiding in the daytime ,crawl in the kitchen in the dead of night .Residual spraying of insecticides is an efficient control method of crawling insects including cockroaches.

The residual spraying involves the spray of an insecticide along routine pathway of cockroaches in the nighttime, such as bottom edges of wall. It brings the effect to control the crawling cockroaches by their contact to residue of insecticide.

The life cycle of cockroaches is devoid of pupae period, but goes through with direct metamorphosis from nymph to adult after several moldings.

General Information            Reducing Risk of West Nile Virus

Mosquito control can be very difficult but must be attempted to not only rid our homes of annoying bites but also to stop the spread of certain mosquito borne health problems.  In a perfect world we need only eliminate the breeding grounds of these biting pests.  This is easier said than done!  Even if you eliminate all possible breeding sites on your personal property, mosquitoes born in other areas will still fly to your part of the world.
Eliminating all possible mosquito breeding sources - standing water, piles of cut grass and fallen leaves, cleaning fence rows of tall grasses and weeds, keeping rain gutters free of leaf litter and other vegetation- is indeed your starting point in an integrated pest management program targeting disease carrying pests.
A complete mosquito control program not only eliminates breeding sources but also includes long-term prevention (using Mosquito Dunks in bird baths, fish ponds, drainage ditches or storm drains, lakes, pet water dishes and other mosquito breeding grounds) and short-term knock down of mosquito larvae (Mosquito Bits) and adult mosquitoes (fogging areas on your property to kill adult insect pests.)  The evening before or morning of outdoor activities (parties, cook outs, wedding receptions) use Mosquito & Gnat Scat to help repel any flying insects from the area.
As added extra personal protection, use a good insect repellent on exposed skin.  Health professionals agree that an insect repellent containing DEET is best for most people.  Smaller children and other people can use an alternative to DEET, such as CedarCide natural insect repellent.  DEET products last longer but both will help stop mosquitoes from biting.
In this article, we will show you different methods of killing, repelling and preventing mosquito infestations with the use of different products, both indoors and outdoors.  Of course, you should never rely on this items as your only tools in a sensible pest management program.   All possible areas where mosquitoes breed should be eliminated, to the best of your ability and those people who are at a higher risk for West Nile virus and its effects should avoid being outdoors during peak hours of mosquito activity.

Indoors

Obviously if you have an indoor mosquito problem, the best solution is to seal them out by repairing doors, screens, windows, etc..  If for some reason this is not always possible, you can use a space spray to kill flying pests.  This can be done in one of two ways: with a hand-held pyrethrin fog (pyrethrin aerosol space spray) or with the use of a metered aerosol dispenser.  The pyrethrin aerosol will give a quick kill of any flying insect pest indoors.  Placed strategically, an aerosol dispenser can give constant knock down of mosquitoes and flies in an area up to 6,000 cubic feet.   The dispenser uses a pyrethrin spray that applies a small burst of natural pyrethrins every 15 minutes.  Purge III is the choice of pest control operators and restaurants.  This combination (aerosol dispenser and Purge) will help eliminate flying pests which invade homes, restaurants and other businesses.  Each can of Purge contains 3,000 metered sprays, enough to last for about 30 days.
For larger indoor jobs (warehouses or other large buildings) use an electric fogger.  The most popular fogger for larger buildings is the
B&G Flex-A-Lite Fogger.    Natural pyrethrins are used for fogging machines.  Ready to Use .5% Fog can be applied without mixing and Exciter Concentrate can be mixed at varying rates.

Outdoor Mosquito Control

Fogging:    This method of controlling mosquitoes, flies and other such pests is temporary but is indeed necessary in many instances, including health threats from severe bug populations and to prepare for an outdoor activity where these pests are unwanted.  Choose from the following foggers for outdoor mosquito control:

Burgess Thermal Foggers - These units are for outdoor use only.  A thermal fogger (as opposed to a cold fogger) produces a pesticide fog or smoke by heating the fogging solution with a coil inside of the unit.  Once this coil warms up, it will produce a nice insect fog that is directed to areas where you would like to kill mosquitoes, biting flies, gnats and other pests.  These unwanted pests not only pose a possible health threat but also make outdoor events a frustrating experience for you, your family and guests.
Burgess Foggers are both light weight and economical for use around homes and small businesses.  Choose from Burgess Electrical Fogger and Burgess Propane Fogger.  Only pesticides that burn can be used in this type of fogger.  The following products will burn in a thermal fogger:

Burgess Bug Killer Insect Fog - This is a ready-to-use fogging solution, to be
used outdoors only, for controlling mosquitoes, flies, biting flies and other annoying pests.  Active ingredients: .2% Resmethrin.  No mixing required.  Available in quart and gallon sizes.  (One quart of Burgess Bug Killer Insect Fog is included with the purchase of each Burgess Thermal Fogger.)
Burgess Bug Killer Insect Fogging information.
Ready to Use Pyrethrins -  Each gallon contains 0.5% Pyrethrins and 5.0% Piperonyl Butoxide.  For use in Burgess and other thermal foggers and is also used in cold foggers.  Labeled for indoor and outdoor use.  Use Permethrin Concentrate with your Pyrethrins if you want a longer residual for outdoor insecticide applications.   Each gallon of Ready to Use Pyrethrins costs $49.50, plus S&H.

Cold Foggers - These types of fogging units do not require insecticides to burn in order to create a mist or fog.  This type of fog is considered cleaner and can be used indoors and outdoors to kill unwanted flying or biting pests.  B&G Electric Foggers are the choice of professionals who frequently fog homes, restaurants, warehouses, patios and other selected outdoor areas.
B&G Professional Fogger Information

There are different products which can be dispensed as a cold fog.  The most popular insecticides to use are Exciter (Pyrethrin Concentrate), Malathion and Permethrin.  Exciter is a concentrated form of natural pyrethrins (quick knock-down, no residual.)  Ready to Use Pyrethrins andPyrethrin Concentrate are the most popular insecticides used in the control of mosquitoes and other pests ( indoors and outdoors) in cold foggers.

Surface Spray    In many cases you might find mosquitoes resting or "lighting" on certain shrubs, small trees, ground cover and other such vegetation.  Temp WP is an excellent product to use in this case.  The wettable powder concentrate leaves an excellent residual for long-term control of insects.  When treating for mosquitoes, lightly spray top and bottom surfaces of foliage.  For more information on this odorless insecticide concentrate, Click Here.

Reducing Risk of West Nile Virus

  • Stay indoors during peak mosquito activity.  This is usually at dawn, dusk, early evening.  If you must be outdoors during these periods, protect yourself by using DEET on exposed skin and wear more protective clothing.
  • Wear long pants (instead of shorts) and long sleeves when outdoors.
  • Spray clothing with Permethrin (make sure that you only use products labeled for your clothing!) or DEET.  Look for the words "DEET" or N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide on the label.  DEET is available in different strength formulations.  Use 35% active ingredient or higher; children should not use more than 10% DEET or make sure that they use a DEET-free product such as CedarCide.
  • Avoid eye contact with insect repellents.  Small children will often rub their eyes, transferring the material from their hands to their face.  Always read and follow label instructions.
  • It is usually not necessary to apply heavy amounts of insect repellents to your skin.  If a thin layer does not seem to repel your flying pests, you can easily apply another layer.  When you return indoors, remove the repellents with soap and water.  If you have treated your clothing with DEET or Permethrin, wash these articles separately.
  • Check all windows and door screens.  Do not give the mosquitoes an entrance into your home.
  • Vitamin B and ultrasonic devices are not effective against mosquitoes.

Control method of mosquito :

In sources Egg, Larva, Pupae,) The egg is laid directly on the surface of water.

The larva emerge in one to three days after contact with water, develop itself through four instars into a pupa in one week, and then becomes an adult in three to four additional days.

Larva control is carried out by insect juvenile hormone analogues as an insect growth regulator , or covered surface of stagnant water by oil.
